Racial bullying is an ongoing problem at Putnam and their problematic safety programs have left some families with no choice but to transfer schools. Of particular concern is the use of “Restorative Justice Circles” at Putnam w/o the consent of the victims’ parents and before the bully has done the self-work required. Untrained professionals forcing children to relive their trauma while their bully continues exterting authority is victim blaming – ironically, a form of bullying.

We call on admin at Putnam Avenue Upper to take accountability, treat families with empathy, and immediately train their staff on trauma informed responses, anti-racism, and inclusive/safe spaces. If you have a child who has been bullied feel free to reach out to us and/or contact the school below:

To who it may concern,

I’m a resident of [Your Town] concerned about the racist bullying at Putnam Ave Upper School. School staff are expected to keep our children safe and as we know Black and Brown children are especially vulnerable in US school systems.

Please consider training your staff on the latest anti-racism and trauma informed response methods.

Thank you,
